Decorative zips – decorative sliders, tailoring, metal, for jackets
A jacket fastened with a zip is so obvious to us that we do not wonder how zips found their way into the world of clothing. And the invention is over a hundred years old, as it was patented in 1913 by an American of Swedish origin, Gideon Sundback. Although it was not the Swede who came up with this invention, as the idea of a zip for clothes was conceived by Elias Howe in 1851. He was also the inventor of the sewing machine, so he certainly contributed to the rapid development of tailoring and the modernisation of this industry. After the success of the sewing machine, Howe abandoned work on the zip. More than half a century later, his idea was developed by Sundback. Before the Second World War metal zips they became popular because they proved themselves as fastenings for military jackets. In 1937 zips won the war against buttons for trouser flies. That was when a zip was first used in trousers, and to this day it is the most popular fly fastening in this part of the wardrobe. The fifties brought a fashion for zips hidden under a piece of fabric. This principle was applied in dresses, which had a discreet fastening at the back. The zip was only an element joining two pieces of fabric and was meant to be invisible to the eye. This changed dramatically in the eighties. Fashion then was marked by excess, accumulation, colour and shine. At that time zips had to be as visible as possible. Metal zip or plastic could be an element of a jacket, trousers, a handbag, or even appear on the wrist or neck as a piece of jewellery.
The zip, also called an éclair, is an inseparable element of leather biker jackets, bomber jackets and jeans. It emphasises their style and is practical. Thanks to this it became popular so quickly. Today we can choose from sewing zips sewn on satin, lace, denim with metal or plastic teeth, and even wooden ones. On fhoval.pl you will find dozens of types of zips for coats, jackets, blazers or blouses, skirts and trousers.
