This type of material is bonded using thermoplastic masses, which are called adhesives. They are applied either in dots or in powder form. Such thermoplastic masses on the market come in two different types. The first is resistant to washing in water, while the second is used for garments that can only be dry-cleaned. In the past, instead of interlining, so-called haircloth was used, which was made from linen yarn and horsehair and served the same function as interlining.

The rule is quite simple. Thicker fabrics should be stiffened with thicker interfacing and vice versa: thin fabrics with thin interfacing.
